To honour the memory of the six
million Jewish children, women, and men murdered by the Nazis, the
United Nations designated January 27 International Holocaust
Remembrance Day. So we can collectively mark this important occasion,
the World Jewish Congress launched the We Remember campaign.
Join millions around the
world and photograph yourself holding a
sign that says #WeRemember and post it to social media. Many of
the images will be projected on a screen at
Auschwitz-Birkenau.
In Canada, as part of the #WeRemember
campaign, monuments and public buildings, such as the National
Holocaust Monument, BC Place, the CN Tower, and Niagara Falls, will be
bathed in yellow light to remember the six million Jewish souls lost
during the Shoah. Together, let us pause and renew our collective vow:
Never Again.

Read this insightful piece on the need for the
criminalization
of Holocaust denial
by Sheba Birhanu, Associate Director of Partnerships at CIJA, on the
80th anniversary of the meeting of top Nazi officials at Wannsee that
ultimately resulted in the murder of six million Jewish women,
children and men.
As a follow-up to the National Summit on Antisemitism that took
place in July last year, CIJA organized the Ontario Municipal Leaders’
Summit that brought together Mayors, City Councilors, and Police from
across Ontario for a half-day virtual summit. Chaired by Vaughan Mayor
Maurizio Bevilacqua, panel discussions focused on what municipal
leaders are doing to combat antisemitism and spur to local action to
fight Jew-hatred.
Community Security Trust (CST) | Antisemitism
is a growing problem around the world. CIJA has been actively
calling for increased investment by the government of Canada in the
security of the Jewish community in Canada, including the
establishment of a Community Security Trust (CST)
modeled after the CST in the U.K. and enhancement of the
Security Infrastructure Program, which would benefit
all at-risk minorities in this country.
