Hello John,
This is Annette Taddeo, Democratic State Senator, and candidate for Governor of Florida.
I’ve been a lot busier lately now that the Legislature is in session, but I wanted to carve out a few minutes to send you a note today on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
Just days ago, Florida's Republican-led state legislature introduced HB5, a law that would directly impede a woman's freedom to make choices over her body. Gov. Ron DeSantis, who brags about Florida being the “freest” state in the country, has endorsed said bill where “Government” will dictate our decisions — even in cases of rape and incest!
The timing is not a coincidence, John. This is a cruel and horrific insult to the women of Florida and a clear indication that Republicans both here and nationally have every intention of overturning Roe at the first possible opportunity.
On a personal level, I’m heartbroken, John.
There are millions of women in Florida – disproportionately from marginalized communities – who will suffer immeasurably so a (mostly male) group of legislators can use the government to exercise control over their bodies. It’s disgusting!!
Gov. Ron DeSantis, who brags about Florida being the “freest” state in the country, wants to pass a law where “Government” will dictate our decisions.
Even in cases of rape and incest!
There is a lot to do here, John – and we have to keep fighting.
I’ll leave you with this: Ron DeSantis and his cronies in the Florida GOP are paving the way for Republicans everywhere to overturn Roe v. Wade. I will fight with every fiber of my being to make sure that doesn’t happen. But I can’t do it alone, John.
So, can I count on you to stand with me?
Thank you,
Annette Taddeo
Candidate for Governor of Florida
