Dear John,
Last weekend, Donald Trump held his first rally of the midterm election year, and his lies were as unhinged and frightening as ever.
He claimed, bizarrely, that white people are being denied access to COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics. (In fact, white Americans are vaccinated at a higher rate than Americans of color.)
He said, falsely, that Nancy Pelosi refused his request for 10,000 national guard troops at the U.S. Capitol on January 6. (The Speaker of the House has no authority over the national guard.)
And not only did he repeat his favorite lie—the Big Lie that the 2020 presidential election was stolen—he had a parade of Republican candidates and elected officials pushing the lie at the rally as well.
We are heading into a midterm election year that will once again be flooded with racist lies and disinformation, and we must be better prepared this time around.
Here’s the good news: Inequality Media Civic Action has spent months collecting data from scientific A/B tests to help craft the most effective content to debunk Trump’s lies and inoculate voters against disinformation. And the data show our strategy is working.
We’ve grown an unusually large following among constituencies that don’t usually follow progressive media, and these folks are viewing our videos significantly longer than typical benchmarks would predict.
But now, with Trump’s traveling circus of racist lies and anti-science disinformation back on the road, we need to expand our program and reach even more of the people he and his Fox News allies are targeting.
Thank you for joining with us in this dangerous time.
