We want to hear from you, John: What would you do if President Biden canceled your student loan debt?
Would you visit your family or friends more often? Be able to take a vacation? Would you just feel an overwhelming sense of relief? That is what we asked our supporters on social media this week to help illustrate the student loan debt crisis in this country and put pressure on the President to use his power to cancel student loan debt. We heard countless heartbreaking stories that show why we urgently need student loan debt canceled. Here are some of them:
Attending college and taking out student loan debt was intended to be a promise for future prosperity — but that isn’t what’s happening, and as colleges increase their tuition by astronomical rates that are far outpacing wage increases, the situation for borrowers is getting worse.
Federal student loan payments have been paused since March 2020, giving much-needed relief to the 40 million Americans with federal student loan debt. But polling from Student Debt Crisis and Savi shows that most borrowers are not financially secure enough to restart payments and say that the payment pause has been critical to their financial well-being.1

Canceling student loan debt is a profoundly personal policy issue at the nexus of racial justice, economic security, and educational equity. When you share your story with us and others, you help amplify the many reasons why we’re pushing the President to cancel student loan debt once and for all.
