hurdle in the path to becoming law. Help us fight for single-payer health

Major news this week: AB 1400 (CalCare), our single payer bill in
California, passed the state’s Assembly Appropriations Committee. This is
the second major hurdle for AB 1400, and now the bill officially moves to
the California State Assembly floor in the next week for a vote!

Not only that, but the Sacramento Bee published an editorial endorsing
CalCare yesterday and the benefits it would provide to every resident of
California.

Here are some of the highlights:

* “An estimated 3.2 million people in California lack health insurance.
Many more face the crushing rigors of a private system that
over-complicates essential medical care and excessively charges
patients for lifesaving procedures and prescriptions.”

* “The benefits of a single-payer system — such as eliminating excessive
co-pays, deductibles and prescription costs — are clear. The idea is
also popular, supported by more than 6 in 10 Americans, according to
the nonpartisan Pew Research Center.”

* Lastly, they point out that California’s Governor Gavin Newson
campaigned on a platform on single payer and should take his own
advice – as he [ [link removed] ]tweeted in 2017, “I’m tired of politicians saying
they support single payer but that it’s too soon, too expensive or
someone else’s problem.”

We need as many eyes as possible on this article so we can spread the word
nationally and build our pressure before the full Assembly votes on AB
1400 next week.

We know that national pressure will be crucial to getting this bill across
the finish line, and that other states will take notice of what happens in
California. That’s why it’s important that we share this as far and wide
as possible.

reached this point and are one step closer to passing AB 1400 in the
California State Assembly.
