Today marks 49 years since Roe v. Wade was decided. That’s 49 years of protecting women’s critical and constitutional health care rights. But whether we reach a 50th hangs in the balance. In the coming months, we could witness another historic event for our country, this time at the hands of the conservative-stacked Supreme Court. We could see the end of Roe v. Wade. We are not helpless, folks. Passing the Women’s Health Protection Act is a sure-fire way to codify women’s health care rights into law.
Here in New Mexico, our state constitution and laws support a woman’s right to choose. But that’s not the case for our neighbors in Texas, where they recently passed a near-total ban on abortions. I’m an original co-sponsor of the Women’s Health Protection Act because the state a woman lives in shouldn’t determine whether she has reproductive rights. All women should be protected at the federal level.
Your support on this issue will make a powerful difference. Thank you. — Martin |
