Plus, a new addition to our Give No Ground program
Indivisibles,
We’ve talked to local groups, we’ve vetted candidates, and we’ve counted the votes. And now, we’re excited to announce Indivisible’s second round of national endorsements for the 2022 midterm cycle! These candidates were hand-chosen by local groups and voted on by the grassroots, and they elevate the values of the Indivisible movement.
We’re so grateful to the local groups who nominated these candidates -- this process wouldn’t have been possible without their help every step of the way. So without further ado, our second slate of nationally endorsed candidates are:
*insert pic here*
We are proud to announce our endorsement of Rep. Marie Newman (IL-06), Mandela Barnes (WI-Sen), and Jamie McLeod-Skinner (OR-05).
- Rep. Marie Newman, a long-time Indivisible champion, is getting our endorsement (and rightfully so) for the third time this year. In early 2018, local Indivisibles in Chicago’s Southwest suburbs began knocking doors and building grassroots support for Marie, animated by her commitment to bold progressive solutions as she took on a long-serving, conservative incumbent. Through her first term in office, Marie has been a reliable and consistent progressive voice, serving as a Vice Chair in the CPC as House Progressives shaped the Democratic agenda, pushing for an inclusive recovery that delivers for working families and to enact Biden’s Build Back Better agenda.
- Mandela Barnes is an historic candidate running in an historic moment. Poised to become the youngest ever and first Black Senator from Wisconsin, and having grown up in one of the poorest zip codes in the state, Mandela is the kind of transformational leader we need. Mandela knows how important it is to eliminate the Senate filibuster so we can implement bold, progressive ideas. Most important is passing vital democracy reforms to protect voting rights, outlaw gerrymandering, and end pay-to-play politics at a time when much of the GOP has turned its back on free and fair elections as a cornerstone of our democracy.
- Jamie McLeod-Skinner is taking on Blue Dog Rep. Kurt Schrader, who’s been one of the foremost obstacles to Biden’s popular Build Back Better plan to invest in climate action, lowering prescription drug costs, and supporting children and families. Jamie would make history as Oregon’s first out LGBTQ member of Congress. Jamie is a true problem solver who shows up, listens, and finds the resources to meet peoples’ needs. Indivisible endorsed her in 2018, and we’re excited to back her again.
Now, this isn’t just a formality: We’ll see this work through -- by registering voters, door-knocking, text-banking, and much, much more to ensure these candidates win. Indivisibles can help change the power landscape because endorsing progressive candidates is just the first step. If your group has endorsed a great candidate for House, Senate, or Governor, let us know and nominate them for a national endorsement! All nominations are vetted by our team, we send candidates our questionnaire, and then Indivisibles in the district vote on whether to endorse.
These candidates are great, but we know that there are many more races out there where your groups’ endorsements, and a subsequent national endorsement, can make all the difference. Want to make a local endorsement but not sure how to get started? Not only is our Endorsements Guide a great resource, we’re also holding two training sections to dive deeper into endorsements. Join us on Tuesday, Feb 1 at 8pm ET for Unpacking “Electability” and on Tuesday, Feb 8 at 8pm ET for Understanding the Endorsement Process.
Can you tell just how excited we are about this? We’re ready to watch your groups throw all your political power behind these endorsed candidates and bring real progressive change to your neighborhoods, districts, and states!
In solidarity,
Indivisible Team
P.S. – Want to help ensure we can get these folks elected? Consider making a donation to Indivisible Action to support all of our work!
