Commemorate the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade by demanding Congress protect abortion access for everyone in our country.
|
Friend,
Today marks the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that affirmed our constitutional right to abortion.
Unfortunately, the right to abortion has not been enough to guarantee access to abortion. Already, many people in the U.S. live with abortion out of reach—especially people who already face systemic barriers to healthcare, such as Black, Indigenous, low-wealth, and LGBTQ+ communities.
But this summer, the Supreme Court may gut or even overturn Roe v. Wade, which would dismantle abortion rights and access.
It could result in abortion being outlawed in half of U.S. states, and it could set the stage for even more attacks to come. In anticipation, more states signed abortion restrictions into law in 2021 than any year since Roe v. Wade.
Sign the petition to Congress: Protect abortion access for everyone who calls this country home.
By signing on, you’re showing your support for the below demands. You’re helping to send a clear message to Congress that people’s personal decisions about abortion must be protected.
-
We demand abortion be accessible, compassionate, affirming for all identities and safe for everyone who needs it, free of politically-motivated barriers, and without cost as a barrier to care.
-
We demand support for and access to a full range of abortion options free from criminalization, stigma, and harassment, including but not limited to in-clinic care, medication abortion by mail, and self-managed abortion.
-
We demand an end to criminalization, punishment, and harassment by the state and communities for any decision around family planning, the outcome of any pregnancy, and any medical decision concerning one's body. We recognize that the criminalization of bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom is rooted in a long history of racial capitalism, colonialism and white supremacy.
-
We demand that young people have the explicit legal right to consent to their own sexual and reproductive health care needs with full protection for their privacy and confidentiality and that young people have full access to the reproductive health services they may need, including but not limited to abortion, birth control, and comprehensive sex education that is sex-positive and LGBTQIA+ affirming.
-
We demand that people having abortions and who have had abortions are represented, supported, affirmed, seen and their leadership is valued.
Everyone—no matter where you live or how much money you make or the color of your skin—deserves access to healthcare, without barriers or political roadblocks. All people should have the freedom and power to control their own bodies and their own lives.
If you agree, sign the petition to affirm the need for reproductive justice NOW.
Thank you,
Rashida
