You may have read the story of Anaelí in Guatemala, who became pregnant at just 11 years old after being raped.
You know that tragedies like this are all too common—but thanks to your caring partnership with IJM, Anaelí found both healing and justice, and used her voice to advocate for her rights.
When IJM began exploring opening an office in Guatemala in 2005, human rights experts warned that our mission could be impossible—the job was too big, and the system too broken. But the Guatemalan government has worked closely with IJM to strengthen their justice system’s response to cases of sexual abuse, especially of children.
Today, there are stronger laws and a Sex Crimes Unit in Guatemala, evidence of a country making a serious effort to protect women and children from sexual violence.
As an IJM supporter, you help make this possible by advocating for individual survivors like Anaelí while creating a larger movement for change. If you haven’t yet renewed your support for 2022, will you take a moment to make a gift today?
