Today marks the 49th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v. Wade decision, which ruled that the right to choose was protected by the U.S. Constitution.

Ever since then, Republicans have worked overtime to undermine abortion access nationwide. In 2021, states passed the highest number of abortion restrictions in a given year since Roe was decided in 1973.

After the Supreme Court upheld Texas’ abortion ban law, it became clear that we can no longer rely on the courts to defend Roe. v. Wade . That’s why I’m proud to have helped pass the Women’s Health and Protection Act , which would protect the right to access abortion in every state.

If we fail to act, it will only be a matter of time before the Supreme Court’s conservative majority strikes down its protections. Then, reproductive rights would be threatened nationwide, including right here in Michigan. A 1933 law is still on the books that criminalizes abortion.

On the 49th anniversary of the decision of Roe v. Wade, I want to make it abundantly clear that I support, and am fighting for, reproductive rights.

We must do all that we can to protect the health of those around us. If you support safe and legal abortion access, and believe that Roe v. Wade should be upheld, sign our petition.

I’m thinking of you all as we fight this battle together.
