John —

I'm not going to mince words: on today's anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision, we are looking back on the single worst year for abortion rights in nearly half a century.

Last year, state politicians introduced over 600 abortion restrictions, and more than 100 were signed into law. If the Supreme Court overturned Roe today, 26 states could move to ban abortion overnight, leaving 36 million women — plus more people who can become pregnant — without access to legal abortion care.

These draconian, un-scientific, and dangerous restrictions disproportionately impact Black, Latino, Indigenous communities, people with disabilities, people in rural areas, young people, immigrants, and those having difficulty making ends meet. Reproductive justice is racial and economic justice, too.

Last year, I voted the Women's Health Protection Act through the House to protect the right to access abortion free from restrictions and bans. On today's anniversary, sign your name now demanding the Senate bring this bill to a vote.

The right to an abortion shouldn't come down to the whims of the Supreme Court, a politician, or even the president. It's something that should be discussed between a person and their doctor.

I have a 40-year commitment to defending reproductive rights. I won't stop fighting because we will not go back in time, John. The Senate must take up and pass the Women’s Health Protection Act as soon as possible. There is no more time to waste.

In solidarity,

Dwight
