Nationwide, extremist, far-right politicians are attacking two of our constitutional rights: our right to make decisions about our own bodies and our right to make decisions about who we elect to office. Georgia is ground zero for so many of these attacks.

We remember back in 2019 when anti-choice extremists in the Georgia State House tried to pass an extreme bill that would have banned abortion as early as six weeks — when most people do not even know they are pregnant. This bill would subject doctors to criminal charges and prison - even for abortions in the first trimester.

Now, the Texas case is pending before the US Supreme Court. This law is so extreme it will allow private citizens to collect a bounty for turning in doctors or anyone else who helps a woman access an abortion. Just when you thought these laws couldn’t get more appalling or vicious, they do.

When I was elected last year, I knew I was going to be on the front lines to defend women’s right to choose. I stepped up and co-sponsored the Women’s Healthcare Protection Act, a bill to eliminate all medically unnecessary bans on abortions. This legislation would protect us if — worst-case scenario — Roe v. Wade were overturned.

I ran for Congress because everyday Georgians needed a champion. It has never been more clear that our communities — especially women and people who can get pregnant— need someone who will stand up for them.
