Today, we honor the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion across the United States. Now, we’re faced with constant threats to not only repeal Roe, but criminalize abortion.
I’ve said it before, and I will say it again: The right to an abortion is non-negotiable. Reproductive freedom is sacred, and people should have control over their own bodies. Period.
Here in Pennsylvania, Governor Wolf and I will veto ANY bill that limits a person's reproductive freedom.
Together, we're the first and second line of defense for abortion rights and reproductive freedom in our Commonwealth.
But the truth is, John, it isn't enough. Democrats must immediately enact federal protections for reproductive rights on the national level so we can prevent the types of astounding abortion bans like the ones we're seeing in Texas and Mississippi. This means abolishing the filibuster and passing the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would codify reproductive rights into law.
Let me be very clear: The future of Roe is on the ballot this year. I need your help in this race because whoever becomes Pennsylvania’s next U.S. Senator will be able to cast a deciding vote to end the filibuster and clear the way to protect abortion access, not to mention confirm or deny future Supreme Court nominees.
