John,

With the rapid spread of Omicron, at-home COVID-19 testing can be a powerful tool for protecting yourself, your family, and the people you come into contact with.

But there are questions about how to approach testing with Omicron:

When is the best time to test if I've been exposed to COVID-19?

😷 Can I transmit Omicron before testing positive?

👃 Should I be swabbing my throat or my nose (or both) to get the best results?

🤒 If I have symptoms but haven't tested positive, should I assume I have COVID-19?

To get some answers, we asked Dr. Gigi Gronvall, senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, to share her expertise.

In our latest Road to Recovery, she takes less than two minutes to tell us what we need to know about rapid tests and Omicron.
