Today marks 49 years since the Supreme Court sided with a woman’s right to choose in the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

Let me be clear: I believe that reproductive health care shouldn’t be a partisan issue, and that women can make their own educated decisions about their own bodies.

Today marks the 49th year of the all-important Roe v. Wade decision which gave women the right to make decisions about their own reproductive healthcare. In this past year, this “right” has been threatened in ways we have not seen since its inception.

As the father of two beautifully independent daughters, it is crucial to me that they have the right to make decisions about their own bodies and that they have access to options for reproductive healthcare.

In September, the Supreme Court upheld a Texas law that effectively bans all abortions after six weeks of pregnancy – before many women are even aware they are pregnant. The law also deputizes any person in America to sue doctors and health care professionals, Uber drivers, or anyone one else involved in assisting a patient in that state to access reproductive health care.

Just weeks later, they heard oral arguments for a Mississippi law that bans abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy, effectively reversing all its prior decisions and returning the issue to the states. The Supreme Court is expected to decide this case sometime this year.

John, these laws don’t stop abortions – they just make them more dangerous. It’s never been more important that we put federal protections in place to protect a woman’s right to choose.

When given the opportunity to protect a woman’s right to safe and reliable reproductive health care, Brian Fitzpatrick voted “NO” on the Women’s Health Protection Act.

Once again, Fitzpatrick sided with extreme Republicans in the House who oppose making safe, productive healthcare for women accessible and available. We deserve a representative who has the courage to act with integrity, not buckle under party pressure.
