Look, John. Our movement has won redistricting battles in a number of states. But as a Washington Post op-ed points out, 2021’s bad gerrymanders are still REALLY BAD.
“[In North Carolina,] Republicans could win 71 percent of the state’s congressional seats with only 48 percent of the statewide vote … Texas Democrats would have to win 58 percent of the vote to be favored to carry more than 37 percent of the state’s congressional seats. ”
North Carolina:
Label: Vote share
Pie chart that’s 48% red, 52% blue
Label: Congressional seats
Pie chart that’s 71% red, 29% blue
Texas:
Label: Vote share
Pie chart that’s 42% red, 58% blue
Label: Congressional seats
Pie chart that’s 62% red, 38% blue
Here's our plan:
✓ Keep supporting voters who are suing over maps like Texas’ and North Carolina’s.
✓ Keep blocking gerrymanders before they happen.
✓ Keep pushing for reforms.
