LULAC Statement On Termination Of Harris County Assistant DA After Failing To
Protect A Hispanic Victim Of Sexual Assault
=============================================================================

HOUSTON, TX - Today, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) issued
the following statement regarding the Harris County District Attorney’s Office
termination today of John Denholm, an Assistant District Attorney, who failed to
file charges against a perpetrator of sexual assault because the victim was
allegedly undocumented:

“LULAC and the Harris County Latino community thanks the District Attorney’s
Office for firing Assistant District Attorney John Denholm for failing to file
sexual assault charges on Karl Bonner because everyone has the right to be
protected in this country, regardless of immigration status,” said Domingo
Garcia, LULAC National President. “LULAC also thanks the brave leadership of
LULAC District Director Al Maldonado and all of the Harris County LULAC Councils,
as well as the Houston Police Officer’s Union under the leadership of Joe
Gamaldi, for bravely organizing to right this wrong.”
