Exciting news, John,

We launched our Gun Store Transparency Project this week! [[link removed]]

Our interactive map displays the largest database of ATF gun store inspection reports ever released to the public. It exposes gun stores cited for breaking the law, including whether federal authorities
are failing to hold them accountable.

We fought for years to obtain this data, which was shielded by special gun industry protections. Now, the Gun Store Transparency project will help ensure the American public is no longer kept in the dark about businesses that contribute to gun violence in their communities.

Simply enter a zip code and find gun stores that have been cited for violations in your community and across the country.

The Gun Store Transparency Project builds on our jaw-dropping, years-long investigation [[link removed]] into the ATF, which revealed that even when gun dealers knowingly break the law, they are rarely held accountable. But with this vitally important resource, advocates, policymakers, and researchers alike can use this data to make our communities safer.

Please consider sharing this new resource with your networks.

Celebrating Legislative Victories in California and New Jersey!

Let’s face it, right now, Congress is completely gridlocked by the filibuster. In fact, just this week, vital voting rights legislation was defeated by the filibuster [[link removed]] . But we at Brady are determined to make life-saving progress on the state and local levels to prevent gun violence and save lives in the absence of federal action.

[link removed] [[link removed]]In New Jersey, as part of Gov. Phil Murphy’s bold legislative package, we helped pass a new law that will improve procedures for school active shooter drills [[link removed]] .
In recent years, active shooter drills have severely harmed students’ mental health and created tremendous anxiety that can last long after the drill ends. This new law prioritizes the well-being and mental health of New Jersey’s children, acting as a critical step to stop long-term trauma from active shooter drills.

“This is a historic day. Thanks to Gov. Murphy’s and the New Jersey Legislature's leadership and foresight, New Jersey is now the first state in the nation to begin addressing the trauma inflicted on our children by active shooter drills.” — Brady Board Chair Kevin Quinn [[link removed]]

In California, Brady activists helped advance a vital gun safety bill, AB 452, to the full California Assembly. AB 452 would require California schools to notify parents about California’s safe firearm storage laws.

About 4.5 million children live in homes with access to unlocked or unsupervised guns. All Californians will be safer if this sensible legislation becomes law.
[link removed] [[link removed]]In Los Angeles, we declared victory this week when a law to ban homemade, untraceable “ghost guns” went into effect.

Thanks to legislative support from Brady California and Team ENOUGH activists, Los Angeles is one of the first localities in the country to ban ghost guns. This local ordinance will protect public safety by banning the parts and kits to build a ghost gun.

In Oakland, we moved steps closer to regulating ghost guns, as the city council passed a local ordinance to ban ghost guns. If signed into law, Oakland will join Los Angeles, San Diego, Berkeley, and San Fransisco as the first localities in the nation to ban ghost guns.

We’ll keep you posted on our advocacy as 2022 legislative sessions heat up. Want to get involved with Brady’s work on the state and local levels? Sign up to join a chapter near you! [[link removed]]
