This week, the Senate was in session and confirmed several of the President’s judicial nominees while House members were back home in their districts. We had more conservative policy wins this week and new polling numbers point to a general disapproval of the Democrat’s handling of impeachment. Keep reading for a rundown of what’s happening in Washington:
Americans Have Little Trust in Dems’ Impeachment Process
New polling from Monmouth University <[link removed]> highlights the wide majority of Americans disdain for the House Democrats’ handling of impeachment proceedings. 73% of Americans have little to no trust in the House Dems' impeachment process and here’s the kicker: 60% <[link removed]> say Democrats are more interested in destroying Trump than finding the facts.

After backroom hearings and a Senate resolution condemning the lack of transparency and oversight, it’s clear the American people are fed up with the Democrat’s sham inquiry. We need Congress to focus on what matters, passing legislation that secures the border, limits government, reins in out-of-control spending, and protects the right to life.

Call your members of Congress in both chambers <[link removed]> and ask that they #LegislateNotInvestigate and support the President in addressing the real issues of the country.
Senate Confirms Record Number of Federal Judges
This week, the Senate has continued to confirm President Trump’s judicial nominees, and at a record pace. The President has had enormous success in placing constitutionalist judges on the bench. He’s making good on his campaign promises and is now responsible for having appointed 25% of all current federal judges. That breaks down to 158 life-tenured federal judges and 2 Supreme Court Justices. President Trump’s impact <[link removed]> will span generations because of his focus on appointing judges that uphold the Constitution instead of legislating from the bench.

Most notably, the Senate confirmed Judge Danielle J. Hunsaker <[link removed]> to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which has arguably been the most liberal circuit court in the nation.
Religious Freedom Win for Faith-Based Organizations
In a huge win for the religious freedom movement, the Trump Administration overturned <[link removed]> an Obama-era rule restricting the role of faith-based organizations in foster care and adoption. The former rule was irresponsible, forcing adoption agencies to choose between either their deeply held religious views or helping children in need, leading to numerous faith-based adoption agency closings. This rule significantly hurt the 400,000+ kids in foster care waiting to be adopted.

This policy was a major initiative of Heritage Action last year, as we pushed Congress to enact the Child Welfare Provider Inclusion Act. <[link removed]> The bill didn’t pass in 2018, but we rallied attention around the lunacy of the rule and it caught the attention of the White House.

This win is an example of how grassroots activism can build momentum for real change. We can now leverage this victory and pressure Congress to return to the issue and pass legislation to enshrine this policy into law.

The House Closes in on H.R. 3 Vote
In December, we expect Speaker Nancy Pelosi to bring her socialist drug pricing scheme to a vote on the floor. The vote was expected in November but Pelosi is delaying a vote in order for the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) to have time to score the legislation.

The Lower Drug Prices Now Act (H.R. 3) irresponsibly puts government in control of drug pricing, which will lead to less research and development. Americans all agree that the price of prescription drugs is too high, but the Democrats are disregarding <[link removed]> how much innovation and pharmaceutical research we lose if H.R. 3 passes.

The uncertain short-term benefit does not outweigh the consequences of government control of our pharmaceutical industry. Especially when you consider the policy is likely to lead to higher prices in the long run.

Congress has just EIGHT working days to send the 2020 appropriations package to the President’s desk, or else the federal government shuts down at midnight on November 21.

Here’s a novel idea that some conservatives are proposing: if Congress can’t do their job and pass a budget on time, they shouldn’t get paid on time. <[link removed]> They argue when hard working Americans don’t do their jobs, they don’t get paid, so why should it be any different for members of Congress?
