Hi John,
You may have heard me say before that, for most of my life, I never thought I would get involved in politics. But I have always been committed to fighting for what is right, and I want to tell you a story about the first protest I ever led.
When I was 16 years old, I was a student at Burke High School here in Omaha. One day, my friends and I noticed that someone had written a racial slur against Black people in the girls’ bathroom. But when we brought it to the attention of our administration, they did not take action and left the upsetting word on the wall for several days.
That’s when we knew we had to do something bigger: we called local media and told them we would be staging a peaceful protest against the school, and when the day came, we walked out of the school building and told the reporters waiting outside about the situation. The next day, the word had been painted over and we created cultural opportunities to learn about each other.
This was one of the first times I realized how much power a small group of people can have if they work together, and it is that same faith in movement-building that fuels our campaign. I know that I can flip this seat blue and become Nebraska’s first Black Congresswoman, as long as I have folks like you on my side. Will you join us with a contribution of $5 or more right away?

Anything you can spare will make a big difference.
