Team,
Today marks fourteen years since the Supreme Court ruled on Citizens United,
one of the most controversial – and impactful –court cases in recent American
history. The Court ruled that independent political expenditures by
corporations and unions are protected under the First Amendment and not subject
to any sort of restriction by the government. In short, there is no limit on
how much a for-profit or not-for-profit organization can contribute to a
political campaign.
Some folks argue that corporations are artificial legal constructs that are
not entitled to First Amendment rights. Others believe corporations and unions
to be legitimate participants in public debate whose views can help educate
voters as they form their opinions on candidates and issues. But we want to
know what you think.
Do you support the Supreme Court’s ruling in Citizens United and corporate
influence in politics?
