I joined Senator Ernst and Governor Reynolds in submitting a comment to the EPA on the proposed RFS supplemental rule. The EPA is charged with ensuring that the statutory target of 15 billion gallons of conventional ethanol, or its equivalent using advanced biofuels, is blended into the fuel supply. I’m disappointed that the proposed supplemental rule falls short of providing confidence that the renewable volume obligations will be met. I urge EPA to adjust the proposed supplemental rule to account for actual waived gallons, using hard data from past practice, to provide certainty to the marketplace. President Trump made a commitment to Iowa and other biofuels-producing states, and I look forward to seeing this promise fulfilled. I recently joined my colleagues to introduce the Family First Transition Act to help states transform their child welfare systems and keep more children safely at home, instead of placing them in foster care. We’ve seen incredible momentum in states across the country as they prepare to implement last year’s Family First law. Unfortunately, some want to preserve the status quo. So we’re introducing the Family First Transition Act to give states the help they need to transform their systems, which is more effective and less expensive than delaying these changes. This will directly help kids at risk of abuse and neglect, and I’ll work closely with my colleagues to find the resources needed to move this forward.
Spring internship opportunities in my Iowa and Washington, D.C., offices are now available. Washington, D.C., interns assist staff members with administrative, legislative and communications work. Iowa interns work with caseworkers to assist Iowans with issues involving federal agencies, interact with constituents over the phone and in-person and attend community and business meetings. Interning in a congressional office is a good way for college students and new graduates to learn more about the legislative branch of the federal government while gaining valuable experience. Post of the Week
Quite a surprise to be called upon impromptu by the President of the United States at a White House event on the historic number of judges he & the Senate have confirmed in the short time he’s been president.
