The landmark ruling in Roe v. Wade confirmed that people have a constitutional right to choose to have an abortion. Tomorrow, we honor the 49th anniversary of that monumental Supreme Court case — but it comes at a somber time in our country.

When — not "if" — this happens, we know the consequences will be immediate. Right now, 26 states are primed to ban or extremely limit access to safe abortion, impacting tens of millions of people across the country. We want to be very clear about something, John: No matter how many barriers people face, the need for abortion care remains the same. The religious right and the extremist conservative justices on the Supreme Court may overturn Roe, but people will always need abortion care.
Access to safe and legal abortion is about our dignity, our humanity, and our freedom. And the impact of dismantling Roe will disproportionately harm Black, Latinx, and Indigenous communities; people with disabilities, people in rural areas, young people, immigrants, and those having trouble making ends meet. This is not ok.
Our country is about to become a very scary place — and it’s never been more urgent for us to act.
