Dear John,
I know how confusing and disappointing this moment is.
Republicans are pushing the most sweeping wave of attacks on democracy since Jim Crow, shamelessly using Trump’s Big Lie to pass laws that not only make it harder to vote, but also would allow them to nullify the result of the next election entirely.
And Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin just gave them a green light to keep going.
But let me tell you something. We may be angry. We may be disappointed. But we cannot give up. And Inequality Media Civic Action has a plan for how we can regain the initiative and help get the Biden presidency back on track.
First, President Biden must demand separate votes in Congress on his most popular proposals, like universal pre-K and clean energy. Then he should use his executive authority to get results right now on issues like drug prices and student debt.
And finally–this part is critical–we must hold Republicans accountable for their wall of opposition by making sure their constituents know the truth.
That’s where we come in. Inequality Media Civic Action has built an audience of more than 6.5 million followers across all social media platforms, and we’re constantly testing the most effective videos and content to reach persuadable conservatives and other key constituencies.
Republicans want us to get discouraged and give up. We can’t let that happen.
I remember when George W. Bush was reelected on a platform of banning gay marriage. But less than a decade later, marriage equality was the law of the land from coast to coast.
I was in the White House when Bill Clinton’s attempt at health care reform failed and Newt Gingrich won control of Congress. But we kept working, and although it took a few more years, we passed health care, providing health insurance to more than 20 million previously uninsured Americans.
I’ll be honest: We’ve known from the start that there was a very real chance that big parts of Joe Biden’s agenda could fall victim to the filibuster. In fact, my very first tweet after Joe Biden was sworn in called on Democrats to scrap it.
That’s why we’ve been preparing our plan for this moment. We know the path forward, and with your help, we will once again prevail over voter suppression, corporate corruption, and hate.
Thank you for sticking with us for the long haul,
Robert Reich Inequality Media Civic Action |
