John – I grew up in Sherrill, a small rural town in Dubuque County, Iowa. When I say "small", I really mean it – today there are less than 200 people living there. That's where my parents taught me the power of hard work and the importance of public service.

My mom worked in public schools, and my dad was a union pipefitter-welder who worked tirelessly. Public service is a value I grew up with – and it's why I'll never stop fighting for Iowa's working families.

I'm running to defeat Sen. Grassley because working families like the one that I come from need a real fighter in Washington. I promise you that I will fight every single day to bring back good-paying jobs, to protect our unions and to give working family kids the bright future and good life they deserve.
