It’s hard to stomach.
This week, as so many of us celebrated the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Senate failed to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act & the Freedom to Vote Act.
I know you’re angry. I’m angry too. But we cannot let their inaction knock the fight out of us. While leaders in Washington block voting rights legislation, it is more important than ever to support the local activists and organizers on the ground leading the fight to protect our democracy. Like every watershed progressive moment in our history, it is these grassroots efforts that will ultimately bring the change we need.
The top isn’t listening. So we fight from the ground up.
See more on how, below.

As you know, Groundwork recently launched a project with the King Family called Give Us The Ballot. With Martin Luther King III, Arndrea Waters King, activist LaTosha Brown, artist/activist John Legend, and so many other incredible cofounders, Give Us The Ballot supports local community organizers on the frontlines of the battle for voting rights — a battle that has never been more urgent.
We are so excited to announce that four amazing Groundwork Partners from our focus states have been selected as Give Us The Ballot Grantees!
Our Dual GWP Partner/Give Us The Ballot Grantees are…
Mississippi Votes
WV Can't Wait
Alabama Forward
For WV's Future
We’re proud to support these four organizations through Groundwork Project and Give Us The Ballot. Sustained support of community organizers is THE key to turning the tide, winning in this moment and building the country we deserve.
