John,
Twelve years ago today, one of the most disastrous Supreme Court decisions in history was made. Citizens United v. FEC has allowed super PACs to open the floodgates to unlimited amounts of unregulated dark money and made it simple for deep-pocketed donors to control policy.
More than a decade after this decision, it is our duty to prevent any further injustice in our election system by taking a stand for fairness and equity. That's why I voted to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act last week.
This critical legislation combines sections of The For the People Act, to get dark money out of politics with the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which protects the right to vote.
There will always be agents of destruction trying their hardest to sabotage our elections. They succeeded with this case in 2010 but we can't let them succeed in 2022. My colleagues in the House and I have done our part, now it's time for the Senate to serve the American people and take action.
Today, on the anniversary of the Citizens United decision, will you join me in calling on the Senate to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act to protect our elections from dark money and defend voting rights for all Americans? We need all of our voices together in this fight. Sign our petition today >> [link removed]
Thank you,
Diana
