Team,

Right now, too many politicians in D.C. are beholden to corporate special interest groups. They'd rather work for their deep-pocketed donors from the gun lobby or the fossil fuel industry than represent the people who elected them in the first place.

This endless cycle of corruption didn't come about by accident. Twelve years ago today, the Supreme Court's infamous Citizens United decision ruled corporations and foreign governments are people in the eyes of the law.

Corporations aren't people. Money is not speech. But the Citizens United ruling has left the American people with a government where money can flow into any mailbox, computer, or TV screen, and we have no idea who or how much was spent to influence our democracy.

Our democracy should NOT be for sale. If we want to actually make progress on the things that matter to working people, we have to remove big money out of our politics. It's why we're working to build the infrastructure to elect Democrats who will support pro-democracy reforms like the For the People Act, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and the Protecting Our Democracy Act.

The system is broken right now, but we have a chance to turn the tides. On today's anniversary, join us in demanding Congress put voters -- not donors -- back in charge. Add your name now if you agree we need to overturn the Citizens United ruling.
