What yesterday's order means and action to take.

ACLU Supporter, yesterday evening the Supreme Court handed down yet another shameful order in the ACLU and our partners' lawsuit against the extreme abortion ban in Texas:

Just two days before Roe v. Wade's 49th anniversary, the Court denied our request to allow our challenge against Texas' ban, S.B. 8, to proceed in district court. The case now remains unduly stalled at the Texas Supreme Court, preventing us from pursuing relief against the ban.

With this order, SCOTUS has turned its back on the suffering of Texans again – so we wanted to make sure you knew that there's action you can take to defend abortion care across the country: Call your senator and urge them to pass the Women's Health Protection Act now – a bill to safeguard abortion access nationwide that will be up for a vote soon. <[link removed]>

As a reminder, countless Texans have been forced to carry pregnancies against their will because of this cruel ban for nearly five months now – disproportionately impacting people living on low incomes, Black and Brown people, undocumented people, and other marginalized communities.

But it won't stop there. Politicians are feeling emboldened to pass similar policies in their state, and they will ultimately push for a nationwide abortion ban if they get the chance.

Yesterday's order makes it clear we must take the fight beyond SCOTUS. It's time Congress did its part: So get caught up on the latest around WHPA below and call your senator now. <[link removed]>

ACLU Supporter –

As we approach the 49th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we're at a crisis point when it comes to abortion access in this country – but the Senate can do something about it right now and you can make sure they do:

Message your senator today and urge them to pass the Women's Health Protection Act (WHPA) immediately – a bill that will provide a nationwide safeguard against abortion bans and medically unnecessary restrictions.

ACLU Supporter, the House has already passed WHPA and the Senate is expected to vote on it soon. If it passes, it will help protect people's right to abortion, no matter where you live or who you are.

After shamefully allowing Texas' extreme abortion ban to remain in effect last month, the Supreme Court could soon decide to overturn Roe v. Wade altogether. If it does, we expect about half the states to ban abortion, and politicians will push to ban abortion nationwide if they get the chance.

This assault on abortion will impact all of us, but because of the systemic inequities in this country, it will disproportionately harm people of color and people with low incomes the most.

Before a SCOTUS decision, ACLU Supporter, we can speak up to ensure WHPA succeeds – and it's more urgent than ever to get the Senate to act. So please, send your message now and defend abortion access for all. <[link removed]>
