Last night, the United States Senate failed to defend our sacred right to vote. I'm profoundly disappointed in this result and the fact that 52 Senators chose to be complicit in these attacks. While we are frustrated and disappointed today, the fight is far from over. We must choose to fight.

After a day of debate, the voting rights bill is blocked in the Senate
New York Times, January 19, 2022

Team,

Last night, the United States Senate failed to defend our sacred right to vote amid unprecedented, Republican-led attacks aimed at turning back the clock on voting rights – especially for people of color.

I'm profoundly disappointed in this result and the fact that 52 Senators chose to be complicit in these attacks. While we are frustrated and disappointed today, the fight is far from over. We must choose to fight.

With your support, I promise – as Governor of Maryland, the right to vote will be protected and preserved for all.

We've seen this play out time and time again. When I served in the Civil Rights Division at the Justice Department, we had the full strength of the Voting Rights Act to hold states accountable for their voter suppression efforts. Those protections were stripped away by the Supreme Court, and these latest attempts to suppress the right to vote are more dangerous than ever.

If the Senate and the Supreme Court won't defend this sacred right, it's up to governors to protect and uphold access to the ballot box. I'm proud to stand with the 48 Senators, including Senators Cardin and Van Hollen, who voted to protect our voting rights.

I promise, if elected, I'll continue to champion voting rights until that right is protected for every American – just as I've done my entire career. First, I need your support.

Please make a donation of any amount now to ensure we can protect and expand voting rights in Maryland.

Thank you,

Tom
