Dear John,

You voted, and, after a close race, our next OLCV Environmental Book Club pick is…Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler! We’ll be meeting to discuss it over Zoom on Tuesday, March 15th at 5pm.

OLCV Book Club - Parable of the Sower
Date: Tuesday, March 15th, 2022
Time: 5pm to 6pm
Location: Zoom
RSVP here: www.olcv.org/olcv-book-club/

First published in 2000, Parable of the Sower has gone on to become a classic of dystopian cli-fi. Set in the future, the book follows hyper-empathetic teenager Lauren Olamina and her family as they try to salvage what’s left of society in their small, safe community. But, after a deadly fire, Lauren is forced out into the world on her own, and must journey northward to find safety with other refugees, while coming up with a revolutionary idea along the way.

I’m really looking forward to reading this book. It’s been on my to-read list for a long time! I hope you’ll join me in picking up a copy at a local bookstore or the library, and diving in. The book is about 345 pages long.

Please let me know if you have any questions! I’ll send out updates and reminders before our meeting on March 15th.

Best,
Francesca Varela
