Hi [First Name],
For generations, civil rights leaders have led the fight to full employment for Black workers across the country. Nearly 50 years after Coretta Scott King led this effort, the Federal Reserve remains woefully behind, leaving Black workers with fewer job opportunities and higher unemployment rates. The connection between civil rights and maximum employment—and ensuring those are good paying jobs, where workers have a voice on-the-job—have always been intertwined, and it’s time the Fed do something.
It's why we're joining with groups and activists around the country and calling on the Federal Reserve to take action--and we need your help.
Sign the petition and tell the Federal Reserve to prioritize lowering the Black unemployment rate in 2022.
Even as the unemployment rate continued its overall decline in December, the unemployment rate for Black workers in the United States increased and is more than double the unemployment rate for white workers. The unemployment rate for Black workers was the only such statistic to increase in December.
Working people--especially BIPOC workers--are still struggling to recover from the economic crisis brought on by the pandemic. We know we cannot have a full and equitable recovery if the Federal Reserve does not prioritize lowering the unemployment rate for Black workers. It’s why we’re asking you to sign this petition and let the Federal Reserve that lowering the unemployment rate for Black workers must be a top priority in 2022.
Coretta Scott King once said that the greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members. We’ve witnessed firsthand the power of this community to move mountains and achieve greatness, but that starts with you.
Please—sign the petition and let the Fed know: make lowering the Black unemployment rate a top priority for 2022.
In Solidarity,
Joel
