Maine Beacon: “LePage is running on Trump’s ‘Big Lie,’ with support from Jan. 6 participants”

We’ve seen it around the country for the past year, but even here in Maine, Trump’s Big Lie – that the 2020 election was stolen – is finding a home. We’ve read headlines about it and seen this playbook elsewhere, but now we have to step up to combat it in our own state.

As the Maine Beacon reports, the Maine GOP chairwoman said that “we will not rest until the truth about the 2020 election is revealed” and Paul LePage is actively courting far-right extremist supporters who share the same opinion. This is all in an attempt to cast doubt on the results of the 2022 election and pass voter suppression laws.

Instead of focusing on helping Mainers and working for our state, the Maine GOP and Paul LePage are focused on suppressing votes and spreading extremist conspiracies. We can’t let them. Will you chip in $5, $10, $15, $20.22, $30, $50 or whatever you can now to support the Maine Democrats’ election protection efforts?

Historically, Maine has one of the highest voter turnout records in the country and it is due, in part, to laws that make it easier for Mainers to exercise their right to vote, like legislation that Gov. Janet Mills signed into law last summer.

This isn’t a matter of partisan politics, John. This is about safeguarding our right to vote here in Maine. With your help, we can defeat Paul LePage and the Maine GOP and declare once and for all that Trump’s Big Lie and voter suppression efforts have no home in Maine.
