Hi,
Please join us in partnership with the Delegation of the European
Union to the United States for an Earth Day Live event this
Wednesday, January 26 at 11 am EST (GMT -5) entitled
Turning the Tide on Plastic Pollution:
Mobilizing Around a Global Plastics Treaty. This digital
event will focus on mobilizing governments to mandate a legally
binding plastics pollution treaty coming out of the United Nations
Environment Assembly (UNEA-5.2).
Plastic pollution ranging from plastic bottles and packaging to
textiles and cosmetics is a complex issue requiring even more complex
and dynamic solutions. Despite the growing global consensus that
comprehensive solutions are needed, no binding international efforts
exist to combat this issue until now.
This Earth Day Live event will feature international voices
leading the charge to advocate for an international treaty banning
plastics. Global leaders on multilateralism and pollution
controls will provide a comprehensive overview of this treaty, ways
that it can develop leading up to UNEA-5.2 and beyond, and ways you
can support this providential opportunity to take action against
plastic pollution.
We have the opportunity to turn the tide on
plastic pollution, will you join us?
The event will be approximately 1 hour and hosted on Twitter,
Facebook
and YouTube
and on our webpage. By RSVP'ing, you'll receive a reminder on
the day with a link to view the event.
Current panelists include:
-
Mr. Hugo-Maria Schally — Head of Unit, Global
Environmental Cooperation & Multilateralism, European
Commission
