Standing Up for Clemency Justice
On January 25th, IDP and partners within the Clemency Coalition are coming together to launch the Clemency Justice Act. The bill demands accountability and transparency in New York's clemency process for those harmed by this country's unjust and racist criminal legal system. The Risks of Smart-City Digital ID Projects

[link removed] December, IDP’s Surveillance, Tech and Immigration Policing project released a report,"Smart-City Digital ID Projects" ([link removed]) in partnership with Professor Rashida Richardson of Northeastern’s Center for Law, Innovation and Creativity. The report examines the risks and tradeoffs of “Smart City” programs that purport to use technology, data and corporate partnerships to solve social problems or improve government services and infrastructure. It features a successful fight by advocates to fight off an ill-conceived plan in NYC to add financial services and smart-chip technology to the city’s municipal ID, the IDNYC.

Comm/Unity Releases Instagram Serieshttps://www.instagram.com/p/CXRl4G9v_pi/

The Comm/Unity network recently completed a series of instagram “carousels” designed to educate the public about the criminalization of immigrants. The graphics offer recommendations on avoiding harmful language ([link removed]) ,[link removed] readers to reject attempts to demonize people ([link removed]) who have records, and highlight the harm that occurs after deportation ([link removed]) .

Challenging the Definition of "Conviction"

As part of our push to defend hard-fought criminal justice reforms in the states, IDP, the Harvard Law Crimmigration Clinic, and the Cardozo Law Immigration Justice Clinic recently filed amicus briefs ([link removed]) in Siriboe v. Garland at the Second Circuit. We challenge the government’s unlawful push to deport a long-time New Yorker for marijuana offenses that have been vacated and pardoned under New York law. IDP is proud to partner with Neighborhood Defender Service who is representing Mr. Siriboe in the case.
