john, California legislators are in discussions RIGHT NOW about whether COVID paid sick leave will be a reality or not. Last year, this critical protection gave workers two weeks of paid sick leave if they or a family member tested positive for COVID. That critical protection expired in September, so workers are urging our leaders to reinstate it immediately.
No worker should be forced to make the impossible decision of choosing between making ends meet or going to work while sick. The omicron variant is causing a historic surge that is overwhelming our health care system, and in order to protect workers while stopping the spread, we need to reinstate COVID paid sick leave.
Ever since it expired, workers have been falling through the cracks in the safety net. Whether to care for oneself or for a family member, like a child who is home from school, paid sick leave is a lifeline for millions of workers. Every day that passes without COVID paid sick leave is a day that workers feel forgotten.
