We won! SFMTA Board votes to make transit-only lanes on the 1 California, 19 Polk, 27 Bryant, 43 Masonic and 44 O'Shaughnessy permanent!

On Tuesday January 18th the SFMTA Board of Directors voted to approve permanent transit-only lanes on the 1 California19 Polk and 27 Bryant43 Masonic and 44 O'Shaughnessy! Thanks to the 30+ people who called in to voice their support!

As part of the pandemic response and with the support of San Francisco Transit Riders, SFMTA enacted a series of temporary emergency transit-only lanes to speed up bus service and improve Muni reliability. These transit-only lanes have significantly improved travel times and were met with widespread support from riders throughout the city. Thanks to our rider advocacy, every one of these temporary emergency transit only lanes has now been made permanent!

Upcoming Events

Expenditure Plan Virtual Town Hall: Join a virtual in town hall to discuss how San Francisco should spend transportation sales tax dollars. The SF County Transportation Authority will ask voters this year to continue the existing half-cent transportation sales tax and approve a new 30-year investment plan, also known as the Expenditure Plan. Tonight at 6pm.

Celebrate Transit Equity Day! Every year on Feb. 4, we commemorate the birthday of Rosa Parks and declare that public transit is a civil right and highlight how it combats climate change. This year, the The Transit Equity Network will be hosting a national conversation on the state of public transit on February 3-4.

The approved the Muni Service Network plan is here! Revised services were slated to be restored in February, but, because of a shortage of operators, all, except for J subway service, will now probably take place in March or later. The J is still expected to be restored in February, coinciding with a new BART schedule that will allow the subway to remain open for service until midnight. We detail what changes you'll see in the coming months — and discuss what more needs to be done — in a new blog post.

Keep JFK car-free and invest in transit!

After consulting with our members and community partners, SFTR supports keeping JFK Drive car-free and investing in transit to improve transit access to and within the park, particularly for equity priority communities.

Car-free JFK increases the amount of safe open-space accessible to all San Franciscans and directly benefits transit by increasing speed and reliability of the 44 O’Shaughnessy as well as encouraging the nearly 16,000 daily pre-pandemic car trips through the park to shift to more sustainable modes of transportation such as public transit. However, significant transit investments are required to make sure it is accessible for all.

Hi John - We can't secure major transit wins without your help. Please consider becoming a members for access to member benefits, special access to events, opportunities to inform our priorities, and to help us lead the fight for Muni funding!
