John, I was honored yesterday to receive the endorsement of the Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund -- a leading organization in the movement to end gun violence and save lives that (along with its subsidiary, Moms Demand Action) has over eight million supporters nationwide. I'll never stop fighting to reduce gun violence and the toll that it takes on families in every community across this country.

I started my gun safety advocacy as a Moms Demand Action volunteer, and the networks I built years ago have been essential to how I operate in Congress. The stories I've carried with me from my fellow Moms have made me a more effective legislator.

As the spokesperson for Moms Demand Action in Illinois, I helped lead and coordinate the statewide strategy that ultimately resulted in then-Governor Bruce Rauner signing significant gun reform legislation into law. In Congress, I've pushed gun violence prevention to the forefront -- I've voted to pass legislation that requires and expands background checks, and to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act while closing the dating partner loophole.

I pledge to continue working on the ground with activists, survivors, and families to reduce the epidemic of gun violence. In less than a decade, we've dramatically altered the conversation around the issue -- Democrats no longer are afraid of the NRA, and public opinion has swung heavily in favor of gun safety policies.

No matter the obstacles, I remain committed to getting comprehensive, common-sense laws to end gun violence passed at the federal level. I'm honored to stand with Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action in pursuit of this goal.
