SACRAMENTO—California business leaders from the California Business Roundtable and California Manufacturers & Technology Association are joining together to support immediate action to address the growing number of cargo thefts impacting the state and nation’s supply chain:

“In the middle of a supply chain crisis, businesses are facing a new threat—growing incidences of cargo theft. While businesses like Union Pacific have made significant investments to protect employees and cargo, today’s actions by Governor Newsom are a critically important next step to address the immediate crisis. We look forward to working with all levels of the law enforcement community, from Attorney General Bonta to local law enforcement and district attorneys on creating meaningful reforms to provide long-term security to our nation’s supply chain.” – Rob Lapsley, president, California Business Roundtable.

“Rail lines are critical infrastructure for the state and nation’s manufacturing sector. Ongoing disruptions due to issues like cargo theft and homeless encampments affect all aspects of the economy, including California’s crucial production supply chain of 30,000 manufacturers. The business community stands ready to assist a coordinated effort to combat cargo theft and ensure timely delivery of goods via the state and nation’s rail system.” – Lance Hastings, President and CEO, California Manufacturers & Technology Association.
