Yesterday, I was proud to lead a panel on gun violence at the 2022 U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting.

Keeping our cities and our residents safe is the top priority for most mayors from cities large and small, all over our country. Yet most of us are also facing a significant surge in violent crime, particularly homicides. The rise in homicides — mostly by guns — is happening across the country.

Throughout my term, I’ve fought each and every day to keep Kansas Citians safe. I was proud to lead Kansas City’s effort to sue a gun manufacturer for trafficking guns used in murders into our city, and have passed several pieces of legislation to keep guns out of the hands of children and domestic abusers. Our work continues.

Congress won’t act, Missouri’s legislature won’t act, but mayors are getting the job done to reduce gun violence.

Reducing gun violence in our community — keeping fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters alive — has been and will remain my top priority.
