John,
Mayor Lori Lightfoot understands that in order to address violent crimes, we need to work together by forging partnerships that are both broad and deep.
That's why Mayor Lightfoot continues to use every tool at her disposal to invest in our neighborhoods in order to increase safety in our communities.
Most recently, she called on U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland for:
Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to Chicago for six months to help increase the number of gun investigations and gun seizures
Federal prosecutors and prosecution resources to handle new cases
Additional federal marshals to assist the Sheriff and CPD to bring the thousands of individuals wanted on warrants for violating conditions of release to justice
We have an obligation to do all that we can to build a safer, stronger, and more prosperous city for our current residents and future generations alike.
While these plans address the need to hold violent and dangerous individuals accountable, they (along with increased investment in some of our most long-neglected communities) will transform and enable our long-term goal of bringing peace to our great city.
Thank You,
— Team Lightfoot
