Yesterday was a bad day for our democracy, John:
Yesterday, 50 GOP Senators blocked Congress from passing a critical voting rights bill that would have fought back against voter suppression, put a stop to partisan gerrymandering, and secured the right to vote for millions of underrepresented voters, including Black and Brown voters whose voices have been silenced for centuries.
But here’s the thing, John. The GOP alone couldn’t have stopped this bill. They had help.
Two so-called “Democrats” — Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema — voted to protect the filibuster rather than protect our voting rights. They’re enabling white supremacist Republicans and frankly, acting just like them.
They chose to uphold a procedural tool of white supremacy instead of securing a free, fair, and equal democracy that includes people like me — people who have been left behind and silenced by a corrupt system.
And I’m sick of it. I’m sick of watching white politicians put the status quo before my basic rights. I’m sick of watching Black and Brown communities get the short end of the stick whenever conservative Democrats decide to stand in the way of progress.
It’s cowardice and it’s complicity. And we need to fight back. Click here to chip in $27 today and help elect an unapologetic progressive to fight for our rights in Congress. [[link removed]]
When I’m in Congress, I’ll do everything in my power to hold conservatives like Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema accountable for enabling white supremacy. I’ll fight every day to end politics as usual, disrupt a status quo that hurts marginalized communities, and be a proud progressive voice for everyone like me — everyone who’s been left behind.
But if we’re going to win this fight, I need people like you to stand with me. Click here to chip in $27 today and help grow our progressive movement. [[link removed]]
Thank you for being a part of our movement.
