Hi there,
I'm reaching out about a big hurdle our team will soon be facing: the legislative session fundraising freeze.
Because I'm a state elected official, I'm prohibited from fundraising while the state legislature is in session. This means from December 14, 2019 until Spring 2020 I can't take a single penny from our supporters. (If you send a check, that means we send it back!)
This fundraising freeze could put us at a significant disadvantage in this race, and here's why:
• Our team is already anticipating an attack from RAGA, the Republican Attorneys General Association, which desperately wants to unseat me and other Democratic AGs leading the fight against President Trump.
• I have a pro-NRA opponent who isn't an elected official, so he's able to continue fundraising while we're prohibited from doing so. And if we don't prepare accordingly, we could let him get ahead.
• I'm not accepting any money from corporate PACs, which means that I'm relying entirely on your individual support to boost our fundraising before this fundraising black out period.
For these reasons, it's essential that we stay on track to win by exceeding our goals for November and December. That means that I'm going to be asking for your help quite often during this month -- but I hope that you'll understand the gravity of this situation and decide to chip in for our team to stay strong throughout the fundraising freeze.
I thank you in advance for your patience and support during this critical time.
-Bob
