In the waning days of the Trump administration, Jared Kushner launched a pilot program to test a “direct contracting model” with Medicare. Kushner’s scheme allows Wall Street-backed startups and private insurance giants to take over portions of Medicare.
Under this model, so-called Direct Contracting Entities (DCEs) are paid monthly by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to cover a specified portion of a patient's medical care—a significant shift from traditional Medicare's direct reimbursement of providers. And in this pilot period, Medicare patients could be enrolled into private DCEs without their knowledge or permission!1
DCEs are designed to drive up costs for patients and maximize corporate profits. President Biden needs to end this program now.

Seniors value traditional Medicare because it is simple, efficient, and universal. Right now, these changes are happening at a small scale, but the program is set to expand this year unless President Biden takes action to stop it.
