Something good actually happened in Congress, John. Senators Jon Ossoff and Mark Kelly introduced the “Ban Congressional Stock Trading Act” – which would ban members of Congress from enriching themselves based on insider knowledge about individual stocks.
One thing we all need to agree on is that it shouldn’t matter what side of the aisle you’re on: no one should make millions of dollars trading on the secrets of government policy in the stock market. It’s corruption in its finest form.
The support for this legislation is strong – 75% of voters across all political ideologies agree we need it. But as you know, Congress won’t get anything done unless people like us hold them to it.
That’s why we’re asking you to add your name and become a citizen co-sponsor of the Ban Congressional Stock Trading Act. Click here to add your name today.
I remember when elected leaders practiced a clean brand of politics – where candidates ran on building trust and loyalty with their voters. But the corrupt forces running this game have betrayed our trust for too long.
One of the biggest culprits of the dirty insider stock trading we see in Washington is our opponent, Ryan Zinke. When he served in the Trump Administration, he failed to disclose his stock holdings in a gun and rifle company that does business with the federal government and ultimately had to resign for his corruption.
That’s just one example that we know about. Frankly, Ryan Zinke should be ashamed.
And Zinke recently reported more than $32 million in stocks and assets – so there’s no telling how he’d use government secrets for his own personal gain if he makes it to Washington again. Unless we make Congress put a stop to its own individual stock trading.
It’s long past time to restore some faith in our political discourse. So please, add your name as a citizen co-sponsor of the Congressional Stock Trading Act to stop corrupt politicians on *both* sides of the aisle from getting rich while in office.
Congress sets the rules for American companies, so allowing them to trade individual stocks leaves the door wide open for immense amounts of corruption. Let’s clean it up.
