John,
It’s been one year since President Biden ushered in his proposal for immigration reform and announced his commitment to building a cohesive, welcoming America. Since then, the president has made progress in several critical areas—including beginning to restore our system of legal immigration.
But many of President Biden’s promises [[link removed]] remain unfulfilled.
At the end of the first year, the Biden administration has yet to create a safe and orderly process for seeking asylum at the border. Immigration detention has expanded. Families remain separated and uncompensated for their trauma. And bureaucratic delays for visas and work permits have worsened.

The Biden administration must redouble its efforts to ensure immigrants and refugees are treated fairly and with compassion. Biden must mobilize his administration and Congress to make sure that changes to our immigration system are realized.
The American Immigration Council knows only so much can be achieved in a year. But the Biden administration must commit to ensuring the well-being of all Americans—no matter where they were born—and work to fulfill its promises.
Sincerely,
