Dear John,

On Thursday, my colleagues in the House and I passed the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act. This is the fourth voting rights bill we’ve passed this year because we won’t stop working until President Biden has a bill on his desk, ready to sign.

But now, it's clearer than ever that the only way to make that happen is to end the filibuster. From spreading disinformation about the results of the 2020 election and distrust in the system to gerrymandering Congressional maps to enacting voter suppression laws in Republican-controlled legislatures across the country, Republican leaders are trying to rig our system and threaten the future of our democracy.

We have an obligation to do everything we can -- including ending the filibuster -- to stop them. It's now or never.

These radical measures especially target working class communities and communities of color -- and they’re using the same arguments they used to oppose the original Voting Rights Act. We can’t go backward. I’m committed to fighting for the voice of every American -- and especially in communities that are too often silenced or ignored.

We have the opportunity to protect our democracy, and I’m ready to take it. Are you with me?

In solidarity,
Judy
