Real Justice

John,

We told you we would be diving even deeper this year: supporting and building a bench of justice champions working to transform our justice system.

Today, we are excited to announce three key endorsements we’re making in Texas. Two of these incredible leaders are running for reelection and one is running for a wide open seat. That means we have a huge chance to elect yet another justice champion and defend our critical progress in Texas – all so we can stop these dangerous, deadly, and racist systems of policing, incarceration, and injustice.

In Dallas County, we’re endorsing John Creuzot in his reelection campaign to continue serving as Dallas County DA. First elected as DA in 2018, John has fought tirelessly to deliver on a progressive agenda centered on decreasing the tactics of criminalization in low level offenses. Within the first four months of being in office, he announced his office would no longer prosecute the theft of “necessary items” — a tactic often used to lock up poor Black and brown people.

Within this same policy shift, he also dismissed over 1,000 cases related to marijuana possession — yet another charge disproportionately brought against Black and brown people that leads straight to increasing mass incarceration. John is in a tough reelection fight and we’re proud to have his back.

In Bexar County, we’re endorsing Joe Gonzales in his reelection campaign to continue serving as Bexar County District Attorney. Also elected as DA in 2018, Joe has been a fighter to enact progressive policies that decrease the need for prosecution of low level offenses.

This included the implementation of a cite and release program — after two years of being in operation, it was estimated that marijuana possession cases were down 99.6% which led to a decrease in the county jail population and saved taxpayers in San Antonio millions of dollars. This program has been enormously successful and we need to make sure we can re-elect Joe and defeat the Republicans who are already targeting this race.

Finally, we’re excited to endorse Albert Roberts in his bid to be the next District Attorney for Tarrant County. The current DA, who Albert ran against in 2018, announced she would not run again for this seat. This leaves it wide open to elect Albert, who is running on a platform to end mass incarceration through ending jail time for low level, non-violent drug offenses, enacting his own cite and release program, and ending cash bail.

Albert understands that our current justice system is built with white supremacy at its root. There is no justice in locking up millions of Black and brown people, for separating families, and for causing decades of systemic harm that has only perpetuated this cycle. Albert will be an incredible champion for the people of Tarrant County and we could not be more excited to support him in this race.

John, we can only elect these three amazing candidates with your help. The primary is on March 1st — every single moment counts. Will you rush a contribution to John, Joe, and Albert right now and ensure they have what it takes to win in just six weeks?

This is just the beginning. We’re going to announce even more endorsements and keep doing the work — city by city, county by county, state by state — to continue transforming our justice system and fighting to elect leaders who will work to serve their communities, not contribute to an insidious, carceral cycle.

It has never been more important for our movement to not back down. A dangerous and false narrative is brewing that more policing and more incarceration is the answer to community safety right now – which we know will lead to more murdering and maiming of Black and brown people. We can’t let that happen.

Make a contribution to our justice slate in a state that is ground zero in this fight. Together, we can build the bench of progressive DAs nationwide.

Let's do this!!!
