Hi John,
Two days ago, a new political organization announced disturbing plans to target Members of Congress who champion the values we hold dear at the Center for Freethought Equality.
Founded by a group of conservative and religious extremists, the National Committee for Religious Freedom publicly says that religious liberty “is under relentless attack in the United States.”
But checking their National Advisory Board - truly a who's who of bigoted, misogynistic, and homophobic figures, like former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, and Penny Nance of Concerned Women of America - we know what they really mean.
They oppose LGBTQ equality and reproductive justice. They want to use public funds for religious indoctrination and garner religious exemptions from public health mandates.
This is their twisted version of “religious liberty under attack” - and starting this week - they’ll be able to engage in unlimited lobbying and electoral activities to oppose any candidate that doesn’t subscribe to their twisted views.

We need your help now to counter this new threat from the Christian Right to reshape Congress with candidates who would use religion to dictate our rights and freedoms.
Contribute any amount - $15, $25, or $50 - and help Center for Freethought Equality defend our champions in Congress who are being targeted by this new lobbying and electoral blitz by religious extremists. [link removed]

Over the last several years, we’ve worked to support candidates that will champion policy solutions that are based on reason and science, not theism. In part because of this work, Congressman Jared Huffman (CA-2) announced in 2017 that he is a humanist and agnostic. Together with Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-8), Huffman went on to create the Congressional Freethought Caucus, of which there are currently 14 members.
This is a small but important and growing movement in our government to defend the separation of church and state so that religion isn’t misused to justify harm against others.
With the midterms later this year, it’s critical that our efforts to support these secular champions are fully funded. Help us defend our champions in Congress against new threats from the religious right. A gift of any size can make an impact. [link removed]
Thank you for your support.
