Yesterday, every single Republican in the Senate once again blocked the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Not one of them was willing to stand up and do what's right for our democracy.
And unfortunately, we didn't get enough votes to change the Senate rules to stop the GOP from filibustering our bills. But I want you to know: I will never give up on protecting voting rights. It's too important and the Republicans' attacks on our democracy are too dangerous. But it's not going to be easy. We're going to have to keep up the pressure. This is going to take all of us raising our voices and fighting to expand our majority this year.
The anti-voting laws passed by Republican state legislatures are Jim Crow 2.0. And we simply can't let them strip away the right to vote from younger, Black and brown, elderly, and low-income voters.
Protecting the right to vote for every American is more important than parliamentary rules. I know you're with me on this, but we still have our work cut out for us. I need you to keep being loud enough so every senator has no choice but to listen and act.
